2013 Call for Entries: Submissions Now Open for Films and Papers

The international Visions Film Festival & Conference is now accepting film and paper submissions from undergraduate filmmakers and film scholars for the 2013 festival year. The festival date is set for April 5, 2013. Film and paper selections will be announced in late February.

Hosted by the Film Studies Department at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Visions is the first international film festival and conference dedicated exclusively to showcasing and celebrating undergraduate work in both film production and film studies. Each year, the Visions programming committee brings together a diverse and talented group of rising filmmakers and film scholars from undergraduate film programs around the world for a highly-attended event full of screenings, lectures, Q&As, workshops, and networking.

SUBMITTING A FILM OR PAPER

Entry forms, guidelines, and deadlines can be found online atwww.visionsfilm.org/submit. All submissions are reviewed and programmed by a committee of undergraduate film students under the supervisions of a faculty advisor. All film and paper submissions must have been completed between Fall 2011 and Spring 2013. No works-in-progress will be accepted. All submissions-related inquiries may be sent to the Assistant Director of Programming, Traffic, and Organization, Hamilton Hudson at hhudson@visionsfilm.org.

PRIOR CONTESTANTS

Previously accepted filmmakers and scholars have been eligible to win awards when their work was selected as exemplary in any of our categories. Visions honors Excellence in Narrative, Experiemental, Documentary, and Animation, as well as Excellence in Scholarship. In addition, there is an Audience Choice Award for Filmmaking, and an Audience Choice Award for Scholarship. The highest honor, the Visionary Award, recognizes one student work that stands out as a paradigm of the Visions mission statement: it is fresh, imaginative, boundary-pushing, and exhibits a passion for film.

Previous award winners have received gifts from DigiEffects, the Cucalorus Film Festival, Cinelab, Camera Motion Research, Corel, Pro-8, Working Films, Audio-Technica, Wavom, American Cinematographer, and Film Matters magazine.

Of course, in addition to tangible awards, Visions offers all visiting filmmakers and scholars a wonderful opportunity to network with other students and members of the film community who share a fervent interest in and love for film. Submit today!

This is posted on behalf of the student organizers of a new QC news program: I would like to start a QC news show that will air on all of the televisions on campus during Mondays free hour. The show will air about 15-20 minutes with segments concerning, academics, events, athletics, student government etc.
I already spoke with the director of OCT and it is very possible to accomplish this project, we will use the studio in King Hall to record the show. The only thing we need is student involvement. So far I have about 5-8 students who are interested, but in order to make this project successful, we will need a commitment of about 15-20 students. Students can have roles as anchors, reporters, editing, camera work etc. This opportunity will provide great experience for those students who are interested in broadcast journalism, writing, media studies etc.

Could you please forward this information to your students, department, and intern email list. They can contact me at KSingh112@qc.cuny.edu.

Thank You,
Karamvir Singh
Student Government Association President
Student Union 319
